As a movie maker, David has
taken his camera on adventurous holidays as a mountaineer and
cyclist. He was a British pioneer of helmet-cameras which brought
spine-chilling images of ice-covered drops beneath his feet and a
memorable scene when thin air and exertion caused his to black out
on the Denali Climb.
On one climbing expedition in Indonesia he used a camera hidden in
his pack to record local officials seeking bribes.
A committed cyclist who does not own a car, and part of a highly
skilled engineering design team and RollsPortrait of David Newman.
Royce, he loves to share his film enthusiasm. For several years he
was training officer for the CEMRIAC (Midlands) Group of the IAC and
is IAC’s Youth Officer.
Throughout Britain and internationally he is known as the IAC’s
Competition Officer. For several years he has organised and managed
the IAC’s International Amateur Film and Video Competition. After
the judging, he then programmes the film screenings at BIAFF (The
British International Amateur Film Festival) to show not just the
top winning films, but also a very wide selection of entries.
He has been a member of the CEMRIAC Council and IAC’s National Council for many years.
