Each year a member organisation may award a UNICA medal to somebody who has been actively engaged in the promotion of independent film-making.

They sometimes choose to honour clubs or organisations in their country as well as individuals.

There is no requirement to award a medal. The Italian Federation (FEDIC) is concerned that awarding too many medals and therefore it rarely makes such an award.

Each national organisation must apply to the General Secretary to obtain a medal.
