Rob van Maanen (1949) (The Netherlands) made films from the age of sixteen. After training at the Art Academy and training as a photographer at the Foto Vakschool, in addition to his photographic work, he devoted himself to making feature films in 8 mm format. These scored gold and public prizes at national and international film festivals. In 1988 he decided to enter the professional film world. Since then he has made documentaries, information films, commercials, company presentations and product promotions.

Soon the urge arose to also produce on film for commercials and feature films. This gave him the opportunity to learn to work with 35 mm film. His film work stretched from open-heart operations to aerial recordings of aircraft and from food flights to Africa to information films for municipalities and government. For the camera work on a prestigious film for a ministry, he was given the Award for Creative Excellence during a New York film festival. For various feature films he acted as director of photography.

Après une formation à l'Académie des Beaux-Arts et une formation de photographe à la Foto Vakschool, en plus de son travail photographique, il se consacre à la réalisation de longs métrages au format 8 mm. Ces films ont remporté des prix d'or et des prix du public lors de festivals nationaux et internationaux. En 1988, il décide d'entrer dans le monde du cinéma professionnel. Depuis, il a réalisé des documentaires, des films d'information, des publicités, des présentations d'entreprises et des promotions de produits.

Très vite, l'envie de produire également des films publicitaires et des longs métrages s'est fait sentir. Cela lui a donné l'occasion d'apprendre à travailler avec un film 35 mm. Son travail s'étendait des opérations à cœur ouvert aux enregistrements aériens d'avions, des vols de nourriture vers l'Afrique aux films d'information pour les municipalités et le gouvernement. Pour le travail de caméra d'un film prestigieux pour un ministère, il a reçu le prix d'excellence créative lors d'un festival du film de New York. Pour divers longs métrages, il a été directeur de la photographie.

Nach einer Ausbildung an der Kunstakademie und einer Ausbildung zum Fotografen an der Foto Vakschool widmete er sich neben seiner fotografischen Arbeit auch der Herstellung von Spielfilmen im 8 mm-Format. Diese erhielten Gold- und Publikumspreise auf nationalen und internationalen Filmfestivals. 1988 entschied er sich, in die professionelle Filmwelt einzusteigen. Seitdem dreht er Dokumentationen, Informationsfilme, Werbespots, Firmenpräsentationen und Produktpromotionen.

Bald entstand der Drang, auch für Werbung und Spielfilme auf Film zu produzieren. Dies gab ihm die Möglichkeit, den Umgang mit 35 mm Film zu erlernen. Seine Filmarbeit reichte von Open-Heart-Betrieben über Luftaufnahmen von Flugzeugen und von Lebensmittelflügen nach Afrika bis hin zu Informationsfilmen für Gemeinden und Regierungen. Für die Kameraarbeit an einem prestigeträchtigen Film für ein Ministerium erhielt er während eines New Yorker Filmfestivals den Award for Creative Excellence. Für verschiedene Spielfilme war er als Kameramann tätig.
