My story begins in Graz, between orange wallpaper and green curtains – in the middle of the 70s.

There I spent a wonderful childhood and my student years, studying Business at the Karl-Franzens-University of Graz. From time to time I am drawn to foreign countries, a student exchange year in Marketing took me to the U.S.

After that, I soon started my professional career in Business Intelligence Consulting (that’s an IT-related job) which took me to Vienna and then Wiesbaden, Germany. I got the chance to start new branches, lead companies, establish new business and try out lots of new stuff, which encopuraged me stay in this field until today. By the way, my current business cards say “Director” – however, the job is not related to filmmaking!

My filmmaking began with the hard steps of Notre Dame, which would break my photo camera in 1991. And with my French teacher who would hand me over her video camera so I could continue to document our trip. Believe me, that sounds more romantic than it actually was – no Holllywood clichés in this story ☺

Anyway, being a busy non-commercial filmmaker, I am starting to focus on documenting anything that comes my way. I turn my impressions into stories and start to enjoy the versatility of filmmaking. After taking a few small steps in fiction films, due to a lack of time, I turned to consuming and analysing films and all their aspects, often in non-commercial filmmaking festivals all across Austria, in national and international competitions.

In my job and in life, I consider myself an analytical, but also creative, imaginative and curious person, always eager to explore new fields and ideas. And above all, I have this passion for stories and storytelling!

Mon histoire commence à Graz, entre papier peint orange et rideaux verts - au milieu des années 70.

Bien soigné, j' y grandis et décide de rester pour mes études en gestion d'entreprise, même si je suis attiré par le monde entre les deux, y compris un an aux Etats-Unis pour approfondir ma passion pour le marketing.

Après l'obtention de mon diplôme, j'ai commencé ma carrière dans l'industrie de la Business Intelligence (oui, cela a quelque chose à voir avec l'informatique), ce qui m' a amené à Vienne et finalement à Wiesbaden. J'ai le droit de créer de nouveaux domaines, de diriger des entreprises, d'établir des lignes d'affaires et d'essayer de nombreuses choses nouvelles, de sorte que j'aime toujours rester fidèle à l'industrie aujourd'hui. Au fait, aujourd'hui "Director" est sur ma carte de visite - mais pas pour les films!

L'histoire de mon tournage commence dans les escaliers durs de Notre Dame, à laquelle mon appareil photo ne peut résister en 1991. Et avec mon professeur de français, qui me remet ensuite son caméscope et me laisse documenter davantage. Ça semble plus romantique qu'avant et ça ne serait pas une histoire pour Hollywood ☺

Comme il sied au bon auteur non-commercial, je me consacre dans le temps suivant à la documentation et à l'enregistrement de tout ce qui bouge autour de moi. Convertissez les impressions en histoires et je suis heureux de voir à quel point le médium du cinéma est polyvalent. Je fais quelques petits détours au long métrage et je me consacre ensuite, notamment par manque de temps pour les productions, à la consommation et à l'analyse des films - dans le cadre de films non commerciaux, je participe depuis longtemps à des jurys dans toute l'Autriche, pour des concours nationaux et internationaux.

Ce qui me distingue dans mon métier comme dans ma vie privée, ce sont mes compétences analytiques, mais aussi ma créativité, mon imagination et surtout ma curiosité pour tout ce qui est nouveau. Et enfin, il y a ma passion débordante pour les histoires et la narration.

Meine Geschichte beginnt in Graz, zwischen orangen Tapeten und grünen Vorhängen – mitten in den 70ern eben.

Gut behütet wachse ich dort auf und entscheide mich, fürs Studium der Betriebswirtschaftslehre zu bleiben, auch wenn es mich dazwischen immer wieder in die Welt zieht, darunter auch ein Jahr in die USA zur Vertiefung meiner Marketing-Leidenschaft.

Nach dem Studium beginnt meine Karriere in der Business-Intelligence-Branche (ja, das hat was mit IT zu tun), die mich nach Wien und schließlich Wiesbaden führt. Ich darf neue Bereiche gründen, Unternehmen anführen, Geschäftszweige etablieren und viel Neues ausprobieren, sodass ich der Branche bis heute gerne treu bleibe. Heute steht übrigens „Director“ auf meiner Visitenkarte – nur eben nicht für Filme!

Die Geschichte meiner Filmerei beginnt auf den harten Treppen von Notre Dame, denen meine Fotokamera 1991 nicht standhält. Und bei meiner Französischlehrerin, die mir daraufhin ihre Videokamera in die Hand drückt und mich damit weiter dokumentieren lässt. Das klingt jetzt romantischer als es war und wäre bestimmt keine Geschichte für Hollywood ☺

Wie es sich für den guten nichtkommerziellen Autor gehört, widme ich mich in der folgenden Zeit dann dem Dokumentieren und halte alles fest, was sich um mich herum so bewegt. Verarbeite die Eindrücke zu Geschichten und freue mich, wie vielseitig das Medium Film ist. Ich mache ein paar kurze Abstecher zum Spielfilm und widme mich dann, nicht zuletzt aufgrund fehlender Zeit für Produktionen, verstärkt der Konsumation und der Analyse von Filmen – im Rahmen der nichtkommerziellen Filme schon sehr lange in Jurien in ganz Österreich, für nationale und internationale Bewerbe.

Was mich im Job genauso wie im Privaten auszeichnet, sind meine analytischen Fähigkeiten, aber auch meine Kreativität, Fantasie und besonders Neugier für alles Neue. Und schließlich ist da noch meine unbändige Leidenschaft für Geschichten und das Geschichtenerzählen.
