Short biography of Jeanne Glass: (source: French press)

“I owe it all to my mother who taught me film editing in California and introduced me at a very young age to art film theatres where I could perfect my knowledge of cinema…My children have inherited a similar passion to mine, working in the film profession, as actress (Anne Gisèle Glass), set designer (Rachel Glass) and Sound Engineer (Marc Glass)…

Jeanne Glass was born in the United States, and studied in France thanks to a Fulbright fellowship. She married a French physician, with German background, Dr. Michel Glass, who, now retired, currently works in humanitarian organisations.

After the family spent several years in French West Africa, Jeanne worked for 20 years as a teacher of film studies in France, in a lycée in Salon de Provence, where she founded the film studies programme leading to a baccalaureate diploma. Several student films won prizes, and became the object of interest for national TV and articles in such media as “Express” magazine or the newspaper “Le Monde”. Jeanne helped found the Film Festival in Salon de Provence, still going strong in its 28th year!

UNICA elections in the Czech Republic, September 2018.

I am again running for the position of Vice-President and I would like to mention several accomplishments that come to mind in relation to my past years in UNICA. Being Vice-President has enabled me to be present at many festivals over the years held by the various National Organisations, also as a President or member of a jury in those countries. I have also represented UNICA by giving my help, proffering advice, bringing prizes on behalf of UNICA and supporting National Organisations in general. There have been also the seminars or workshops that I, as a film studies teacher, have taught, on various useful topics, for example, how to behave on a jury! Being able to express myself in English, French and German has been very helpful.

A new project of collaboration has been founded between the Macedonian Federation and the Mediterranean Union, unique in its genre. I also have been in contact with Serge Michel to improve relations between UNESCO and UNICA.

I was President of the Southern French Regional Cinema Union (UMCV)for 15 years. I have since become a member of the Board. I brought people from the South of France to UNICA over the years, including young people. We continue to be present every year. Since retirement I have been teaching and coaching cinema and audiovisual studies at our municipal Youth Cultural Center. I came to UNICA through the French Federation, having been asked to serve on the UNICA Jury in 1995 in Bourges, France. There, I met many filmmakers from various countries and was so impressed that I immediately supported the UNICA experience.

My experience in filmmaking over the years has brought persons of all ages together in workshops and clubs to write and create short films through a common passion.

I believe in UNICA.

The meetings and the communication between filmmakers is what UNICA is all about. Being a sort of "ambassador" for our Union, affiliated with a UNESCO committee devoted to supporting and saving the world's non professional accomplishments in film, is a high and noble mission, in my eyes.

Basically, friendship and understanding between the peoples of the world through culture is what it is about. I am proud of having served this cause during these years. I hope to continue doing so for the coming three years.

« Je dois tout à ma mère qui m’a appris le montage en Californie et qui m’a amenée très jeune à des cinémas d’art de d’essais où j’ai pu perfectionner mes connaissances du cinéma. Mes enfants ont hérité d'une passion semblable à la mienne, en travaillant dans la profession du cinéma, en tant qu’actrice (Anne Gisèle Glass), décoratrice (Rachel Glass) et ingénieur de son (Marc Glass)…

Jeanne Glass est née aux Etats-Unis et a étudié en France grâce à la bourse Fulbright. Elle a épousé un médecin franco-allemand, Michel Glass, qui, retraité, travaille actuellement pour des organisations humanitaires.

Après que la famille a passé plusieurs années en l’Afrique de l’Ouest francophone, Jeanne a travaillé pendant 20 ans en France en tant que professeur de Ciné-audiovisuel dans un lycée de Salon de Provence où elle a fondé la section CAV qui mène au diplôme du baccalauréat. Plusieurs films d’élèves ont gagné des prix, et sont devenus  un sujet d’intérêt pour la télévision nationale et des articles dans les média tels que la revue « l’Expresse » ou le journal « le Monde ». Jeanne a co-fondé le Festival de Film de Salon de Provence qui  est dans sa 28ème année !

Élections de l'UNICA en République tchèque, septembre 2018.

J’aimerais mentionner un certain nombre de faits qui me viennent à l’esprit en rapport avec mes actions passées. Etre la vice-présidente de l’UNICA m’a permis d’assister à de nombreux festivals organisés par diverses organismes nationaux, ainsi que d’être Présidente ou membre d’un jury dans ces pays. J’ai aussi représenté l’UNICA en aidant certains festivals à différentes occasions, en donnant des conseils, en apportant des prix de la part de l’UNICA, et en soutenant les organismes nationaux en général. En tant qu’ancien professeur de cinéma j’ai animé différents stages et ateliers sur divers thèmes, par exemple, comment participer à un jury ! Le fait que je puisse m’exprimer en anglais, en français et en allemand a été d’un grand secours.

Un nouveau projet de jumelage a été fondée entre la Fédération de Macédoine et l’Union Méditerranéenne, projet unique. Je suis en contact avec Serge Michel pour améliorer les relations en l’UNESCO et l’UNICA.

Pendant 15 ans je fus Présidente de l’Union des clubs ciné-vidéo de la Région Sud, en France. Je suis arrivée à l’UNICA parce qu’invitée par la Fédération Française Cinéma et Vidéo à participer au jury de l’UNICA 1995 en France. Ce faisant j’ai rencontré beaucoup de cinéastes de divers pays, et j’ai été tellement impressionnée, que j’ai immédiatement soutenu l’expérience UNICA. J’ai fait venir des personnes du sud de la France à l’UNICA pendant des années, y compris de jeunes réalisateurs. Nous continuons à être présents tous les ans.

Mon expérience en tant que cinéaste pendant des années a amené des personnes de tous âges à se rassembler pour écrire et créer des courts métrages. Nous avons été fiers d’avoir certains de nos films diffusés à la télévision, ou sélectionnés pour figurer dans le catalogue de la Bibliothèque Nationale François Mitterrand.

Je crois en l’UNICA.

Les rencontres et la communication entre réalisateurs représentent tout ce signifie l’UNICA. En étant une sorte d’ « ambassadrice » pour notre Union, affiliée à l’UNESCO, je me suis consacrée à soutenir et protéger des films non-professionnels à travers le monde. C’est une haute et noble mission à mes yeux.

Au fond, l’amitié et la compréhension entre les peuples du monde à travers la culture est l’essence même de l’UNICA. Je suis fière d’avoir servi à cette cause pendant toutes ces années. J’espère continuer à le faire pendant les prochaines trois années à venir.

„Ich verdanke alles meiner Mutter die mir in Californien die Filmmontage beigebracht hat. Sie hat mich schon sehr jung in Filmkunstkinos mitgenommen wo ich meine Filmkenntnisse entwickeln konnte. Meine Kinder haben die Leidenschaft geerbt und sie arbeiten im Film als Schauspielerin (Anne Gisèle Glass) als Bühnenbilderin (Rachel Glass) und Toningenieur (Marc Glass)…

Jeanne Glass wurde in der USA geboren und hat mit einem Fulbright scholarship in Frankreich studiert. Sie hat einen deutsch-französischen Arzt geheiratet der jetzt in Pension im humanmedizinären Bereich arbeitet.

Nachdem die Familie mehrere Jahre im frankophonen  West Afrika war, hat dann Jeanne während 20 Jahren als audio-visuellen gymnasial Lehrerin in einem Gymnasium in Salon de Provence gearbeitet. Sie hat dort eine Sektion für Filmstudien gegründet wo Schüler ein Filmdiplom im Abitur bekommen können. Mehrere Filme ihrer Schüler haben Preise gewonnen, die auch  das nationale Fernsehen interessiert haben und im „Expresse“ und „Le Monde“ erwähnt worden sind. Jeanne hat vor 28 Jahren das Filmfestival von Salon de Provence mit begründet.

Es besteht ein neues Partnerschaftsprojekt zwischen der Makedonischen Filmfederation und der UMCV. Sie hat Kontakt mit Serge Michel um das Verhältnis zwischen UNICA und UNESCO zu verbessern.“

UNICA Wahl in der Tschechichen  Republik September 2018

Ich kandidiere für das Amt der Vizepräsidentin. Ich war während den letzten Jahren Vizepräsidentin der UNICA.

Ich möchte Ihnen einige Fakten geben die mit meiner vergangenen Arbeit in Zusammenhang stehen. Als Vizepräsidentin habe ich bei vielen Festivals von verschiedenen Verbänden teilgenommen, manchmal auch als Mitglied oder Präsidentin der Jury. Ich habe die UNICA vertreten indem ich den Festivals bei Gelegenheit Hilfe oder Ratschläge gegeben habe oder UNICA Preise dort vergeben habe und die verschiedenen nationale Gremien unterstützt habe. Als frühere Filmausbilderin habe ich Lehrgänge mit verschiedenen Themen geleitet wie zum Beispiel wie man an einer Jury teilnimmt. Die Möglichkeit mich in Englisch, Französisch und Deutsch ausdrücken zu können war mir sehr hilfreich.

Ich war während 15 Jahren Präsidentin der Südfranzösischen Filmclubs Vereinigung (UMCV) Die Französiche Föderation hat mich 1995 gebeten der UNICA Jury beizutreten. Ich habe dort viele Filmautoren aus verschiedenen Ländern getroffen und war so beeindruckt das ich sofort die UNICA unterstützen wollte. Während all diesen Jahren habe ich Südfranzosen ermutigt an den UNICA teilzunehmen, darunter auch junge Autoren. Das werden wir auch in Zukunft weiterführen.

Durch meine lange Filmerfahrung habe ich Menschen verschiedener Altersstufen veranlassen können Kurzfilme zu schreiben oder zu filmen. Wir sind stolz dass einige unserer Filme in Fernsehen gezeigt wurden oder im Katalog der Bibliothek National François Mitterand sind.

Ich glaube an die UNICA.

Kommunikation und Zusammentreffen von Autoren sind der Sinn der UNICA. Als eine Art Botschafterin unserer Vereinigung, die der UNESCO angegliedert ist, habe ich mich der Unterstützung und Verteidigung des nichtprofessionellen Films in der Welt gewidmet. Das ist in meinen Augen eine hohe und edle Aufgabe.

Im Grunde ist die Freundschaft und das Verständnis zwischen den Völkern durch Kultur, dass worum es überhaupt in der UNICA geht. Ich bin stolz dieser Aufgabe während diesen Jahren gedient zu haben. Ich hoffe das für die kommenden drei Jahren weiterhin tun zu dürfen.
