Tarmo Hotanen

Film has a part of my life ever since my first early movie theatre experiences in 1960s when a local bank promoted tickets to see Tarzan. Later I spend a lot of my spare time in movie-theatres, because my brother was a doorman.

Later I started to study film research. During my student years I started my my career as a film festival worker.

In the 1990s I joined the Film Center of South West Finland, which is an organiszation for different kind of film activities. I was one of founders of the Festival of Finnish Cinema at Turku. In those years I worked also in the Finnish Film Archive as a local programmer at  Turku.

Later I graduated as a Master of Arts in film and tv science, and worked for some years at universities teaching Latin-American Film History.

I have worked as a visiting film researcher at Film institutes in Mexico City and Buenos Aires.

I have written articles for books, magazines and even newspapers. During recent decades I have assist several Film Festivals in Finland, such as the Blue Sea Film Festival, Tampere Film Festival and DocPoint.

For many years now I have run the Baltic Herring Short Film Competition at Rauma as chairperson of the jury.

I earn my daily living as history teacher in Rauma.
