UNICA 2015
Webmaster Report

Portrait of Dave Watterson.THE FUTURE

When the technical work is completed, we must publicise the website. We need to take a place on social media, and discover enthusiastic contributors. Please send contributions to the website in any UNICA language and on any relevant topic.

THE PAST

Behind the scenes a lot of experiment and testing has happened in 2014-15. Our website must work well on smartphones, tablets and desktop computers.

As quickly as possible the latest news from the president, changes to the membership details, reports of UNICA 2014 and the promotion of  UNICA 2015 have been included.

Immediately before and after each General Assembly I put all the reports and Minutes online, as soon as they become available.

Our website has a small readership but its popularity grows slowly each month. Only about 50 other websites link to it, which may reflect the problems with some of our member federations’ websites.

The two basic problems:

  1. People forget to send news to our website as well as to their own and to printed magazines. For example, when a federation awards a UNICA medal of honour, I would like to publish the details. Send me the name of the person receiving the medal, and tell me why they have earned it.
  2. Everything has to be translated.
I am very grateful to those who help. I offer special thanks to Ilse Urbanek, Jeanne Glass and Georg Schörner. I have been delighted to receive helpful corrections and suggestions also from Philip Sevestre, Jürgen Richarz and Romy Van Krieken. But we need more people who can translate from one UNICA language into another. Please contact me!

MISCELLANEOUS

The future of the unica-news website is under consideration.
It is a separate, privately run site. That allows it some freedoms. It was built to allow easy updating by non-technical contributors, so if you have ideas to contribute, let me know and I can help you do it yourself.
