Annual Activity

Dear friends,

Since last year's UNICA get-together the members were greeted with some news received by mail. Thanks again to Rolf Mandolesi who is in charge of sending the messages by post to those members who do not have lnternet.

The correspondence with members has been rather voluminous.

Unfortunately, we have had to mourn 2 longtime UNICA friends who passed away in the past few months: Stani Puls and Hans Schober, both members of the UNICA Committee.

We are pleased this year to welcome 4 new members who received the Friends of UNICA:
- Claire Auda (DE/FR).
- Nico Sauber (LU)
- Jean Fleusch (LU)
- Christine Leumann's friend (CH)

Whereas: Willi Gray, Sissi and Walter Gaidos left the club.

Membership:
The total number of Friends was - end of July 2014 — 114 (including 29 pairs).

The 2014 annual Friends of UNICA get-together

It took place on 08.27.2014 in the "Kursalon" of Piestany with 48 people attending. After the welcome greetings, President Georges Fondeur gave a short and friendly address to all attendants. Our Treasurer - Thomas Kräuchi — also took the floor and shared with us some interesting information: the Friends of UNICA play a major role for the institution as sponsors who are prepared to provide assistance for the sake of UNICA in case of need. For instance they could offer some CHF 4'000 to the Fieberbrunn Club as the UNICA 2013 organiser to help them cover the budget deficit. Why ? because the Festival was entrusted in the last minute to the Fieberbrunn Club as a Plan B and they managed to get it organised within just 4 months and make it a success as it it had been a Plan A.

For entertainment Wolfgang Freier offered the projection of two films by Fred Graber. The first one, Reminiscences revived memories of the UNICA 2007 Festival. The second one, The amateur film-makers of Morocco reported about the impressions collected by UNICA delegates led by Fred Graber when they visited Morocco in 2014. And then - as a surprise - we could pay pay homage to Lena Schaumann who received 40 chocolate ducats as she was attending a UNICA Festival for .. . the 40th time.

Acknowledgments: Be it for the reception, the accounts or for administrative work, we were pleased to express our gratitude to Ursula and Thomas Krauchi, as ‘well as Ursula Graber for their efficient assistance. And Wolfgang Freier made — as usual - a decisive contribution for the success of this get-together.  Warm thanks to them all!

Our wish to identify a person or group prepared to take the initiative of organising an extraordinary get-together of the Friends of UNICA has not materialised to date.

The meeting of the Friends of UNICA 2015
in St. Petersburg, Russia will most probably take place on 09 September 2015 and we are looking forward to seeing you there.
