Dear film friend,
Can assure you that I do my best to publish and circulate in each issue of UNICA-News data and information which may be of interest, not only to the national federation as a member of UNICA, but also to all fans and friends of film and video making.
However, this information can develop and prosper only if the seeds fall on fertile ground so that the growing plants can bear flowers and fruit. In reality, we sometimes observe that the dissemination of this information, just like seeds planted in stony ground, cannot really develop because they do not find their way to the proper end-user (in this case, the member). The publications and periodicals in which this information is published are in fact very few in number.
So now my suggestion is: What about creating and reserving space in your national magazine or periodical for UNICA News, perhaps with a representation of our emblem - the globe with the UNICA banner? We imagine that UNICA Friends in particular would be very pleased to find there information of great interest to them. Would that not be an appropriate way to disseminate UNICA information? This article is obviously not meant just for national federations which already have publications of this kind. I hope that - in cooperation all the other ones - we can find ways to set up a common procedure and I would like to thank members in advance for their effort.

Je ne ménage pas mes efforts pour que, dans chaque numéro des Nouvelles de I’UNICA, vous ayez des renseignements et des informations qui ont d’une certaine importance, non seulement pour la fédération nationale en tant que membre de l’UNICA, mais aussi pour tous les enthousiastes du cinéma et de la vidéo.
Ces informations ne peuvent toutefois prospérer et se multiplier que si la graine tombe sur un sol fertile que les fleurs et les fruits peuvent se développer. Dans ce cadre, cependant, on constate malheureusement que la diffusion de ces informations, tout comme des graines plantées dans un sol fertile, ne parviennent que rarement, voire pas du tout au consommateur (ici les membres). Les publications (journaux etc..) dans lesquelles ces informations sont publiées sont en fait peu nombreuses.
Que pensez-vous de l’idée de créer et ensuite de garder une place fixe dans votre revue nationale, dans votre publication pour les Nouvelles de I’UNICA, en mettant peut-être l’emblème de l'UNICA, l’image du globe? On peut penser que, par ce biais, les Amis de l’UNICA en particulier pourraient trouver des informations qui sont importantes pour eux. Ne serait-ce pas là un bon moyen de contribuer à la diffusion des informations UNICA?. Il est clair que cet article n’est pas destiné qu’aux seules fédérations nationales qui ont déjà des publications de ce genre. Il s’adresse aussi à toutes les autres et j’espère que nous saurons trouver ensemble une procédure adéquate; et je tiens à vous en remercier cordialement.

Ich bemühe mich sehr, in jeder Ausgabe der UNICA-News Angaben und Informationen, die nicht nur für den Landesverband als Mitglied der UNICA, sondern sehr oft auch für jeden FiIm/Video-Begeisterten von Wichtigkeit sein können, einzubringen.
Diese Informationen aber fallen nur dann auf fruchtbaren Boden, wenn die Saat an den richtigen Ort kommt, um zu gedeihen und Früchte oder Blumen zu tragen. In diesem Prozess aber ist es leiderTatsache, dass die Verteilung solcher Informationen, eben als Saat auf fruchtbaren Boden, nur selten den richtigen, sehr oft aber keinen Weg zum Verbraucher (sprich: Mitglied) geniesst. Es gibt nur wenige Publikationsorgane (Zeitungen etc.), in denen solche Mitteilungen veröffentlicht werden.
Wie wäre es, wenn in lhrer Zeitschrift, in lhrem Publikationsorgan ein fester Platz für UNICA-News, für UNICA-Publikationen geschaffen würde, vielleicht mit dem Signet der Weitkugel mit der Aufschrift UNICA? Es könnte doch sein, dass so besonders UNICA-Freunde Infos finden würden, die für sie wichtig sind? Könnten Sie sich nicht zu einer solchen Mithilfe für die Weitergabe von UNICA-Informationen entschliessen? Natürlich ist dieser Artikel nicht für die Landesverbände bestimmt, die bereits solche Publikationen machen. Für alle Andern aber hoffe ich, dass wir einen gemeinsamen Weg finden werden und dafür möchte ich lhnen herzlich danken.
Organizing a UNICA Congress is a process entailing numerous problems which could very often be considerably reduced if everyone involved met the schedules and deadlines. The Secretary-General always sends the registration forms for video entries to national federations in good time, before a UNICA Congress. He takes this occasion to ask the national federation for the name of the person(s) they intend to send as delegate(s), the name(s) of young filmmakers coming to UNICA, the title(s) of entries belonging to the Jeunesse category (authors less than 25 years of age) and an indication of films that are not appropriate for young viewers. Not only the Secretary-General, but also the organizers of a UNICA Congress have to keep an eye on deadlines and are eager to have such data for programming. If these documents are not made available in due time, there are difficulties for all participants.
For this reason, it will be not be possible to accept any programme modifications for UNICA 2005 after the entry registration deadline!!
L’organisation d’un Congrès UNICA est une opération qui soulève de nombreux problèmes qui pourraient très nettement allégés si tout le monde respecte au moins les calendriers. Le Secrétaire général envoie toujours en temps utile aux fédérations nationales, avant le Congrès UNICA, des formulaires d’inscription pour les vidéos. Il demande à cette occasion qu’on lui indique le nom du/de la délégué(e) de la fédéra¬tion nationale, le nom des jeunes cinéastes venant à l'UNICA, les données concernant les films du programme «Jeunesse» (auteurs de moins de 25 ans) et les films qui ne sont pas recommandés pour de jeunes spectateurs. Ce n’est pas seulement le Secrétaire général, mais aussi l’organisateur d’un Congrès UNICA qui sont tenus de respecter la date fixée et qui attendent ces données de toute urgence pour la programmation. Si ces documents ne parviennent pas à temps, cela soulève des problèmes pour tous les participants.
C’est pour cette raison que, pour I’UNICA 2005 il sera impossible de prendre en compte de quelconques modifications après la date de remise!!
Jede Durchführung einer UNICA ist mit vielen Problemen belastet, die sehr oft durch ganz einfaches Einhalten von Zeitplänen entlastet werden könnten. Der Generalsekretär sendet immer rechtzeitig vor einem UNICA-Kongress Anmeldeformulare, für die Videos, an die Landesverbände. Dabei bittet er um Mitteilung, wer Delegierter des Landesverbandes ist, weiche Jungfilmer zur UNICA kommen, welche Filme zur,,Jeunesse” gehören (bis 25 jährige Autoren) und welche Filme für junge Zuschauer nicht geeignet sind. Nicht nur der Generalsekretär, nein auch der Organisator einer UNICA ist auf den vorgegebenen Termin fixiert und erwartet diese Angaben dringend für die Planung. Wenn diese Unterlagen nicht rechtzeitig kommen, gibt es für alle Beteiligten Probleme.
Aus diesem Grunde können bereits zur UNICA 2005 Änderungen nach dem Eingabetermin nicht mehr berücksichtigt werden!!
This means that it will not be possible to declare just before or after the presentation that the film presented is - for instance - a “Jeunesse” work and this indication was omitted at the time of registration. Or that some other data should be modified. Please take this into account.
We are very pleased to see wide acceptance of the idea of keeping all the DV- cassettes with the works shown at UNICA and selected for the Film Library. I take this opportunity to thank all national federations once more. It is therefore possible to circulate the cassettes from the Film Library immediately and the task of the Film Librarian is greatly facilitated.
The value of the DV-cassette has now proved itself and life has become much easier for UNICA organisers and technical teams as they do not have to juggle with various types of equipment. The DVD format has also got into the swing of things at UNICA alongside DV cassettes. For that reason, we ask you to submit your national programme exclusively in DV or DVD format. We assume that all national federations have the capability of transferring VHS and other formats onto DV or DVD. All national federations are therefore requested to comply. That will greatly facilitate the organisation and operation of the UNICA Competition.

Ceci signifie qu’on ne pourra déclarer avant ou après la présentation qu’il s’agissait par exemple d’un film Jeunesse et que ce fait avait été oublié lors de l’inscription Ou bien qu’une autre indication doit être modifiée. Veuillez en tenir compte
Fait très positif: celui selon lequel nous avons le droit de conserver les cassettes DV sélectionnées avec les oeuvres montrées à l’UNICA pour la Cinémathèque de l’UNICA. Je voudrais remercier ici les fédérations nationales. Ainsi, les cassettes seront mises immédiatement à la disposition de la Cinémathèque, ce qui facilitera beaucoup de travail du cinémathécaire.
La cassette DV a maintenant fait ses preuves et c’est vraiment un soulagement pour I’organisateur d’un UNICA car il n’est plus nécessaire de changer sans cesse d’appareils. A côté de la cassette DV, le DVD a maintenant également trouvé sa place à I’UNICA. Pour cette raison, nous voudrions vous prier instamment de présenter votre programme national en totalité sous forme de DV ou DVD. Il devrait quand même être possible pour la fédération nationale, à notre avis, de reproduire Ie VHS ou les autres formats sur un DV ou un DVD. Nous demandons donc aux fédérations nationales de donner suite à notre requête. Vous ne aiderez beaucoup à garantir un bon déroulement de I’UNICA.

Dies bedeutet, dass nicht vor oder nach der Vorführung erklärt werden kann, dass es sich z.B. um einen Jeunesse-Film handelt und dass dies bei der Ausfüllung vergessen wurde! Oder dass eine andere Angabe geändert werden sollte. Bitte beachten Sie dies.
Eine sehr positive Angelegenheit ist die Tatsache, dass wir die ausgewählten DV-Kassetten der gezeigten Werke an der UNICA für das Archiv der UNICA zurückbehalten können. lch möchte an dieser Steile den Landesverbänden danken. So stehen die Kassetten sofort für das Archiv zur Verfügung, was die Arbeit des Archivars sehr erleichtert.
Die DV-Kassette hat sich sehr bewährt und ist für den Organisator einer UNICA eine wirkliche Erleichterung, weil nicht immer Geräte umgestellt werden müssen. Neben der DV-Kassette hat aber auch die DVD einen sicheren Platz in der UNICA gefunden. Aus diesem Grunde möchten wir Sie höflich und dringend bitten, Ihr gesamtes Länderprogramm auf DV oder DVD einzureichen. Es solite nach unserer Auffassung doch möglich sein, dass VHS oder andere Formate auf DV oder DVD vom Landesverband überspielt werden können. Hier unsere dringende Bitte an die Landesverbande, dem Folge zu leisten. Sie helfen damit sehr, den Ablauf einer UNICA besser zu gewahrleisten.
