Dear film friends,

Film and video has developed tremendously in the past few years. With the introduction of digitalisation we have made a step forward and some hope that it might be the last one. But we can have some doubts about this, as technology is not likely to come to a halt and we can expect that the new century will again bring innovations whose scope can hardly be evaluated at the moment.

This is why I would say that we should go on this year taking advantage of whatever equipment is available and possibilities are offered, and indulge our hobby, hoping that what we create will make sense and have a meaning for the future. And for this purpose, all of us, film and videomakers, and people who devote so much of their time to this activity, should provide support.

I hope that success will be on your way too this year. To, your federation, your club, yourself as a club member, I extend my best wishes FOR SUCCESS AND PROSPERITY IN 1999 !

Chers amis du cinéma,

Le cinéma et la vidéo se sont énormément développés au cours des dernières années. Avec l'introduction de la numérisation, nous avons fait un pas en avant et nous espérons que ce sera le dernier. Mais nous pouvons avoir quelques doutes à ce sujet, car il est peu probable que la technologie s'arrête et nous pouvons nous attendre à ce que le nouveau siècle apporte à nouveau des innovations dont la portée ne peut guère être évaluée pour l'instant.

C'est pourquoi je dirais que nous devrions continuer cette année en profitant de l'équipement disponible et des possibilités offertes, et nous adonner à notre hobby, en espérant que ce que nous créons aura un sens et une signification pour l'avenir. Et à cette fin, nous tous, cinéastes et vidéastes, et ceux qui consacrent tant de temps à cette activité, devons apporter notre soutien.

J'espère que vous aussi, cette année, vous connaîtrez le succès. À votre fédération, à votre club, à vous-même en tant que membre du club, j'adresse mes meilleurs vœux de succès et de prospérité en 1999 !

Liebe Filmfreunde,

Film und Video haben sich in den letzten Jahren enorm entwickelt. Mit der Einführung der Digitalisierung haben wir einen Schritt nach vorne gemacht und hoffen, dass es der letzte sein könnte. Aber daran können wir einige Zweifel haben, denn die Technik wird wahrscheinlich nicht zum Stillstand kommen, und wir können erwarten, dass das neue Jahrhundert wieder Innovationen bringen wird, deren Umfang im Moment kaum zu bewerten ist.

Deshalb möchte ich sagen, dass wir dieses Jahr fortfahren sollten, indem wir die verfügbaren Geräte und Möglichkeiten nutzen und unserem Hobby frönen, in der Hoffnung, dass das, was wir schaffen, Sinn macht und eine Bedeutung für die Zukunft hat. Und zu diesem Zweck sollten wir alle, Film- und Videomacher und Menschen, die so viel Zeit für diese Tätigkeit aufwenden, Unterstützung leisten.

Ich hoffe, dass auch in diesem Jahr Erfolg auf Ihrem Weg sein wird. Um, Ihrem Verband, Ihrem Club, sich selbst als Clubmitglied, wünsche ich 1999 alles Gute für Erfolg und Erfolg!
